Main objectives:

Develop CEN-standards for specifying composites input materials.

There is a need for developing standards on this area because there has been a lack of a standardised material datasheets for composite materials. Each raw material producer has his own way of describing the material data. And this gives the customer a challenge when he is to describe his end product.

The new CEN- standards shall:

  • Grant same material properties independently of the raw material producer
  • Give the composite enterprise the opportunity to choose material form different producers
  • Minimize the cost of individual testing and material documentation
  • Do the marked more transparent and the buying prosess more efficient
  • Reduce the cost by doing the production process more efficient and minimizing the possibilities of errors.

The standardization project is initiated by The Norwegian Composite Association. There has been established a consortium with Standards Norway, Fireco, Reichold. The initiative has resulted in establishing of a CEN-working group, CEN/TC 249/WG 15 - Fiber reinforced Composites where Jon Taby, Fireco is the convenor of this group.

Standard Norway is the secretary of the group, and Norwegian Composite Centre is managing the funding from Innovation Norway in the project.

The standards is to be implementet from autum 2011.
